The message is a confirmation of the approval of your eTA application, and the message will be sent in less than ten minutes (10mins) immediately you finish submitting your application online.

After Applying For An eTA, What Next?
Should in case you wait for 30 minutes and don’t receive an email confirming your Electronic Travel Authorization, maybe it’s because you enter a wrong passport number or something else. What you have to do is immediately apply for a new eTA.
But if you received the confirmation email, open the email message, and you’ll see your eTA number. Ensure you save that number because it will be used to check your status. Also, note that being approved for eTA doesn’t guarantee your entry into Canada.
After you fly down to Canada, you will have to present your passport at the airport to be scanned to confirm your identity. You will be allowed into Canada if you pass the security check; else, you could be sent back to your country.
If you arrive in any of the ten (10) significant airports in Canada, a Canadian Border Service Agency officer will meet with you. They will take you to the primary inspection kiosk; they will compare your identity to the information provided in your eTA application.
But if you arrive in any smaller airport in Canada, your fingerprint may not be checked out-rightly. However, you may undergo the process if you’re referred for a secondary inspection.
After the complete inspection, the border service officer will stamp your passport if you pass the inspection. Additionally, they will inform you of how long you will stay in Canada. These usually don’t take more than six (6) months.
